Binding: 19c. calf over boards (8mm. thick) with bevelled edges. The covers bear gothic archways with finials in blind. Spine lost.

Deco desc: northern Italian: red rubrics; small caps blue with red penwork or red with blue penwork; initials in gold, blue, mauve, red, green and white from 11r. to the end; historiated initials in the same colouring with heads of men seen in profile, three-quarters or full face on 1r. to 10v.; one miniature (215 x 135mm.) on lr. depicting Pope Bonifatius enthroned, in white habit and red pallium, surrounded by members of the Curia. The canopy is pale pink and has a blue arch, the screen is green, the woodwork is light brown and yellow and the figures wear blue and green cloaks, and green, pale pink, grey or blue habits. Under the picture is the lettering BONIFACIUS.

Provenance: Av. carries a pencil note in English about the text in a 19c. hand, as well as extracts from two English booksellers' catalogues, one with the entry no.87 and claiming the MS. has '180 leaves of vellum'; on 1r.a and 127v.b is the no.171; 1r.b has '1/8'; 127v.b has 'K/8'; inside front cover is the pencil figure '366', the armorial book-plate of Sir Charles Nicholson, Bart.(The other 53 sheets must have been removed before the codex was bound in its present state. The nature of the text(s) on the missing folios is not known.)
